There are 4 different ways that the delivery charge for an order can be calculated.

  • Flat Rate: A single price regardless of quantity or value ordered.
  • Item Rate: Each item's shipping cost applied at basket.
  • Total Price: Combined product value for basket calculation.
  • Total Weight: Combined product weight value for basket calculation.

Flat Rate: A single price is added to the shipping method setup, this charge will apply regardless of basket quantity or value.

(Clicking on the price next to the edit pencil will allow the setting and saving of your charge).

Item Rate: This method involves assigning each product a delivery charge (within the product detail). At the checkout all of the charges will be used to calculate the total delivery charge for the order. For example, lighter items could be assigned £1 for delivery and heavier or bulkier items could be assigned £5 for delivery, so that if one of each was added to the basket the total charge would be £6. A base charge can also be assigned to this method (within the method setup), so if a base charge of £1.95 was used, for the example above, the total delivery charge would be £7.95 Please note this method isn't suitable for quantities of the same product within an order, when those items require calculation.

Total Price: The shipping charge is based on a basket calculation of the total transaction value. The shipping price values are added as a price range tier within the method charge section, a tier can resemble this example:

(Clicking on the price next to the edit pencil will allow the setting and saving of your charge).

Total Weight: This method involves assigning each product (or option) a weight in grams (or a trigger value). Then at the checkout the total shipping charge for the order is calculated based on the predefined weight range and prices (shipping matrix). For example:

(Clicking on the price next to the edit pencil will allow the setting and saving of your charge).

Additional:

With all the above methods a 'Free Shipping' value can be applied at zone level, 'Free Shipping Min Spend'. This covers all methods listed in that zone, within the method setup you can select whether you wish for this value to be applied or overridden.

The method setup with any of the above calculation options, also allows for the additional charge of 'Outlying Postcode Surcharges'.

Please note: Apart from the zone 'Free Shipping', all charge values should be entered as a NET value.
